چکیده

The present study was carried out to investigate the adsorption characteristics of sea nodule residue (SNR) heated at 400°C towards aqueous selenite. Physico-chemical characterization revealed that the leached residue was a complex mixture of oxides of mainly manganese and iron along with MnCO3. Adsorption studies were carried out at varying the pH, selenite ion concentration, SNR dosage and in presence of competitive ions. It was found that the selenite adsorption increased with pH reaches maximum at pH 5.0 and then decreased. Further it was found that the percentage of selenite adsorption increased with increasing amount of adsorbent (SNR) and decreased with increasing initial concentration of selenite. It was observed that the percentage of adsorption of selenite decreased with increasing concentration of externally added ions. The overall effect of competing ions on adsorption of selenite follows the order Cl< NO3 -< SO4 2< CO3 2.

Effect of Humic Acid on the Selenite Adsorption onto Hematite

In the present study, we investigated the adsorption of selenite [Se(IV)] onto hematite, which usually exists in soils and rocks, focusing on the effect of humic acid. The selenite adsorption onto hematite varied with the contact time, finally reaching an equilibrium state in 5 hours. The result was in good agreement with the Parabolic diffusion equation (R 2 = 0.97). The adsorption with differ...

Macroscopic and spectroscopic characterization of selenate, selenite, and chromate adsorption at the solid-water interface of gamma-Al(2)O(3).

The interaction of selenate, selenite, and chromate with the hydrated surface of gamma-Al(2)O(3) was studied using a combination of macroscopic pH edge data, electrophoretic mobility measurements, and X-ray absorption spectroscopic analyses. The pH edge data show generally increased oxyanion adsorption with decreasing pH, and indicate ionic strength-(in)dependent adsorption of chromate and sele...

High efficiency adsorption and removal of selenate and selenite from water using metal-organic frameworks.

A series of zirconium-based, metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) were tested for their ability to adsorb and remove selenate and selenite anions from aqueous solutions. MOFs were tested for adsorption capacity and uptake time at different concentrations. NU-1000 was shown to have the highest adsorption capacity, and fastest uptake rates for both selenate and selenite, of all zirconium-based MOFs st...

Adsorption Mechanisms and Transport Behavior between Selenate and Selenite on Different Sorbents

Adsorption of different oxidation species of selenium (Se), selenate (SeO4) and selenite (SeO3), with varying pHs (2-10) and ionic strengths (I=0.01 M, 0.1 M and 1.0 M NaNO3) was measured on quartz, aluminum oxide, and synthetic iron oxide (ferrihydrite) using batch reactors to obtain a more detailed understanding of the adsorption mechanisms (e.g., innerand outer-sphere complex). In addition t...

Oxidative decolorization of methylene blue by leached sea-nodule residues generated by the reduction-roasting ammoniacal leaching process.

The leached residue, generated after selective extraction of Cu, Ni and Co by reductive-roasting ammoniacal leaching of sea nodules, was characterized by various physicochemical methods. The finely divided residue, containing mainly manganese carbonate/silicates and manganese (III, IV) (hydr)oxides along with iron oxides, showed a lower surface area (66.3 m2 g(-1)) than that of the parent sea n...
